CLAL's  Mission

CLAL’s mission is to help leaders confront the challenges of building dynamic Jewish communities in the 21st century by:

bulletPromoting a pluralist Jewish community
bulletEnhancing the effectiveness of volunteer, professional and rabbinic leadership
bulletDeveloping new Jewish thought and practices

CLAL has been called the Jewish world’s "foremost proponent of religious pluralism" (New York Jewish Week). Since its founding in 1974, CLAL has championed a Jewish community of Jewish communities, open to many voices and committed to one Jewish people.

CLAL works in partnership with communities, leaders and individuals to create real conversations and relationships across the denominations. CLAL’s own faculty includes rabbis and scholars from every Jewish denomination, and its courses and publications reflect the contributions of thinkers from across the Jewish spectrum.

Through seminars, courses, consultations and lectures in 100 cities, CLAL helps established and emerging leaders acquire the tools to build dynamic, pluralist communities and institutions that continually enhance the quality of Jewish life. CLAL faculty plays a key visionary and mission-focusing role for the leadership of federations, Jewish social service agencies, schools, synagogues, professional groups and national organizations.
